Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an electric contact material excellent in resistance to deposition and less consumption and having small are persisting time and contact resistance by a method wherein Ag-SnO2 particles are mixed with metal particles such as Cr, Zr and Mn having a small oxide-formation free energy and the mixture is sintered.
CONSTITUTION: Mixture consisting of 90W95wt% of Ag and the remaining Sn is melted in a high-frequency furnace and is treated with atomization to provide Ag-Sn alloy particles of 10W50μ size. The particles are internally oxidized in a high temperature oxygen atmosphere to give Ag-SnO2 particles, to which metal particles such as Cr, Zr, Mn, etc. having a small oxide-formation free energy is added to occupy 0.05W10.0% of the total mixture. The mixture is formed into required forms and is sintered to provide an electric contact material having various excellent characteristics for use as breakers, etc.
