Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a napped sheet suitable used as a wall and ceiling covering material, in which the condition of naps varies with the shape and distribution of crimps on the sheet, by pressing against a rotary heating body a film of a thermoplastic resin and a substrate material consisting of an unwoven cloth which has been crimped to form regularly spaced recesses therein, and tearing off the substrate material with the film fused thereon from the rotary body.
CONSTITUTION: A film 2 of a thermoplastic resin and a substrate material 3 are pressed against a heating roll 1 as the film 2 and substrate material 3 are moved in layer. The film 2 is molten to be sticked to the surfaces of the roll 1 and substrate material 3. Since the substrate material 3 has been crimped to form regularly spaced recesses 12 therein with the remaining part in a flat state, the flat portion of the substrate material 3 is fused to the film 2 but the recesses 12 are not. When the substrate material 3 is then torn off from the roll 1, the film 2 gats stringy between the roll 1 and substrate material 3. Thus, the resin fused to the substrate material 3 turns to be string-like naps 13 which are substantially uprightly extended. The air from an air ejection unit 4 runs through the substrate material 3 to allow the naps 13 to be cooled as they are. The napped sheet 11 are annealed by a heating roll 5, tensed by a tension roll 6 and taken up around a take-up roll 9.
