Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the simplification of the apparatus and the improvement in image sharpness by selectively applying the DC voltage of te same polarity as the image part surface potential of an electrostaic holding body to each toner support.
CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive drum 1 which holds color separated latent images on the surface and the toner support sleeves 161W164 which support the toner particle layers of the respective colors of yeollow, magenta, cyan and black on the respective surfaces are opposed by maintaining a spacing in the respective develpment parts. At the time of performing the development of electrostatic images, the DC voltage which is of the same polarity as the image part surface potential of the photosensitive drum 1 and substantially stops flying of the toners on the sleeves 16 is applied selectively to each toner support sleeve 16 by a AD voltage source 28 according to the respective color separated latent images. As a result of this, at the time when the latent image region to be developed passes, the sleeves 16 are grounded to make the transfer of the developer easy, while in the other latent image regions the transfer of the developer is inhibited.
