Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve higher accuracy and shoter time of inspection by maintaining the mean temperature of the fluid in the inspection section higher than the ambient temperature of the pipe body and constant.
CONSTITUTION: A heater 3 is disposed along the overall length of the pipe body 1 of the inspection section L which is closed by the valves 2, 2 of the pipe body 1 constituting the pipeline. A plurality of thermometers 4 are disposed by leaving suitable spacings and are connected to a heating control unit 6. The heater 3 is controlled by the outputs of the thermometers 4 by way of the heating control unit 6 so that the mean temperature of the fluid obtained by the thermometers 4 becomes always higher than the ambient temperature of the pipe body 1 and constant. Thereby, the fluid temperature of the pipe body 1 inside and eventually the fluctuations of the fluid pressure are correctly suppressed and this results in that the fluctuations of the fluid pressure relate almost exclusively to the leakage of the fluid only and this makes possible the highly accurate leakage detection by a pressure gauge 5.
