Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a step generator for both the PCM companding coder and decoder which can generate the step voltage corresponding to A and mu sides, by giving the control from the outside to the switch of the step generator consisting of the resistance and switch groups. CONSTITUTION:Resistances R plus 10, 12 and 14 of the same resistance value are connected as shown in the diagram and along with switches SW1-SW16 plus switches S20 and S22, and then the earth plus the positive and negative reference voltage + or -Vref are connected across the resistances. Thus a companding coder is formed. When this circuit is used as the coder of the mu side, switches S22 and S20 are turned on and off respectively. While switches S22 and S20 are turned off and on respectively when the circuit is used as the coder of the A side. As a result, each corresponding step voltage can be obtained via switches SW1-SW16. Both the resistance group and switch group can be formed into IC easily, and the decoder can also be formed in nearly the same constitution.
