Abstract
PURPOSE: To wash reasonably the selective permeable membrane having been used for treating proteinaceous material, by washing the membrane with oxidizing or reducing agent when the pollution index of the membrane surface is not smaller than a specific value.
CONSTITUTION: In washing of a selective permeable membrane having been used for separation of a liq. contg. proteinaceous material, the membrane is washed with an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide etc., or with a reducing agent such as sodium solfite, sodium thiosulfate etc. when the membrane pollution index, defined by the ratio of chemical oxygen demand to total residue on evaporation, is not smaller than 0.3. Hereby the proteinaceous material, which is adhered to the membrane surface to a degree not less than the critical value and is otherwise difficult to be removed, is easily removed, and the membrane performance is recovered economically by the reasonable treatment.
