Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture anode of an uniform shape automatically and continuously by incorporating an automatic molten metal casting operation using a vertical casting mold such as to situate the shoulder portion of anode downwards and also using a funnel with a molten metal level detector.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of anode for the electrolytical refining of low metals, e.g, lead, etc., a vertical casting mold, consisting of the fixed mold 5, having a structure by which the shoulder portion of anode is situated downwards and in which the notch 8 to form a trimmed slope downwards in the upper part-forming portion of the shoulder, and the movable casting mold 6, having the casting mold 7 to form the lower part of the shoulder and the oil-pressure cylinder 3 on its back, is used. The upper part of the molds 5 and 6 is provided with the molten metal level detector 15 through the insulating material 14 on the outside of the funnel 13. Also, the charging of molten metal from the trough 16 and the upper and lower parts of the funnel are automatically controlled by the oil-pressure cylinders 12 and 12', and also a series of post treatments involding cooling, discharging, correction, etc., after casting are automatically controlled. By placing the shoulder portion downwards, automatic dropping is made possible and also the occurrence of defects in the shoulder portion due to intermixture of oxides, etc., can be prevented.
