Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently induce oxygen-hydrogen rebonding reaction by flowing rising gas currents contg. oxygen and hydrogen and falling water streams contg. H2O2 to a catalyst-packed reaction tower and decomposing the H2O2 to supply oxygen insufficient in the reaction. CONSTITUTION:Since the danger of explosion is brought on when oxygen and deuterium generated by radiolysis of heavy water in a reactor are accumulated in large quantities, it is requied that they are converted into heavy water by rebonding, yet part of the oxygen is consumed in deuterium peroxide forming reaction to cause insufficiency of oxygen. So, a gas contg. oxygen and deuterium is introduced from gas introduction pipe 1 into the reaction tower fitted with noble metal catalyst- packed bed 2, and heavy water contg. deuterium peroxide from top feed pipe 4. The deuterium peroxide is decomposed to generate oxygen, whereby insufficiency of oxygen required for oxygen-deuterium rebonding reaction is supplied to induce the reaction efficiently.
