Abstract

PURPOSE: To descale securely by single stage treatment, by induction heating of a material to be descaled after flux is spread on the surface of the material so as to melt the flux, then by peeling the flux after solidified by cooling.
CONSTITUTION: A hot rolled strip 1 is made to travel in the direction of an arrow under a suitable tension given by pinch rolls 2, 2', and a flux 3 is spread on the strip 1 by a spreader 4. The flux 3 uniformly spread on the strip 1 moves in the direction A→B and melts by electromagnetic induction heating when it passes just under an inductor 5, so that the flux 3 absorbs the oxide scale present on the surface of the strip 1. The surface temp. of the strip 1 is lowered rapidly after the strip 1 has passed the inductor 5, hence the flux 3 is also cooled and solidified. The solidified flux is removed by a bending roll 6 and by the spray of water from a high press. water injector 7, thereby manufacturing strip from which scale is removed.
