Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect a power transistor by a method wherein the switching operation of the power transistor which controls the current flow to an ignition coil and the power transistor at the time of high voltage are compulsorily cut off. CONSTITUTION:If positive signal voltage is sent from a generator 1, a power transistor 12 is turned on, then current flows to an ignition coil 13. If the signal from the generator 1 is changed to negative one, the base current toward the power transistor 12 is cut, and the power transistor 12 is quickly turned off, then a spark is produced on an ignition plug 14. If the power source voltage increases and exceeds the specified value, a zener diode 8 conducts. Then the power transistor is forced to turn off, and thus protected from being damaged by an abnormally high voltage.
