Abstract

PURPOSE: To elongate the life of a low frequency induction furnace by adding flux prepared by mixing a specified amt. of Na2SiF6 and NaCl when ALBC3 is melted in the furnace and by reacting the flux with slag alone to chemically remove the slag.
CONSTITUTION: When ALBC3 (Cu 80%, Al 9W10%, Ni 4.5W5.5% and Fe 4.5W 5.5%) is melted in a low frequency induction furnace lined with SiO2 type lining material, flux prepared by mixing Na2SiF6 70W75wt% and NaCl 25W30% is added. This flux reacts with slag at the metal melting temp. or below, does not erode the lining material, and can remove the slag chemically. Thus, slag adhesion to the furnace wall can be reduced to save power consumption as well as elongate the furnace life.
