Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between a primary amine and glycolonitrile is effected in an aqueous medium to give selectively an aminontrile useful as dyeing assistant, antibacterial, antimildew or modifier for highpolymer material in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: In an aqueous medium, a primary amine of formula I (R1, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl respectively) is stirred together with previously prepared glycolonitrile or its aqueous solution, which is gradually added, or both of them are mixed in small portions, to form aminonitrile of formula II. The reaction requires no catalyst and finishes within 10minW3hr at about normal temperature, preferably 10W60°C.
