Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve purifying efficiency during warming-up in such a way that flow distribution in catalyst is modified in association with engine temperature shortening the time to have the catalyst come up to the active temperature. CONSTITUTION:A plate 14 installed at the upstream part of a monolithic catalyst 6 is fixed on a shaft 15 which has a case 2 pierced in horizontal direction, a spiral bimetal 17 is fixed on the outside of the case of the shaft 15. Until the engine comes up to the settled temperature, atmospheric temperature of the bimetal 17 is low, exhaust during warming-up is efficiently purified. When warming-up has been completed, atomospheric temperature of the bimetal 17 is made higher, exhaust through an influent port 3 is veered downward and purified. In consequence, purifying efficiency during warming-up is improved.
