Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title polymer free from device corrosion and deterioration of quality, by bringing a polymer comprising a halogen-containing metal catalyst residue into contact with a mixture gas of an epoxide and a specific alcohol to deactivate acid substances due to the residue.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A highly crystalline polyolefin comprising a halogen-containing metal catalyst residue, e.g. a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, is brought into contact with a mixture gas of (B) an epoxide, e.g. propylene oxide, and (C) a 3W8C alcohol, e.g. 2-propanol, having a branched structure on the carbon at the α-position to the hydroxyl group, and purified to give the desired polymer. The molar ratio of (B) to the total components (B) and (C) is 0.05W0.90:1.
