Abstract

PURPOSE: The title modified asphalt emulsion usable for road paving, roofing, and waterproofing, having improved temperature sensitivity and brittle resistance at low temperature, comprising a chlovinated polyethylene prepared by the aqueous suspension method.
CONSTITUTION: Polyethylene having a molecular weight≥ 5,000 is chlorinated by the aqueous suspension method to give a chlorinated polyethylene with a chlorine content of 10W55 wt.%, which is heated with a solvent, e.g.a chlorinated hydrocarbon, in an autoclave to form a conc. Uniform solution. Asphalt is dissolved in an organic solvent, and added to an aqueous dispersion of a surfactant to prepare an asphalt emulsion. The solution is added to the emulsion to give the objective mixed emulsion.
