Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a direct measurement of the mass flow of reformed gas in a metanol reformed gas engine, etc., by making use of a liquid which is lower in vaporing temperature than gas to be measured and relatively larger in vaporing latent heat.
CONSTITUTION: From nozzle 2 projecting into passage pipe 1 for gas to be measured into the gas, a very small quantity of a liquid which evaporates at a temperature below inflow temperature t1 of the gas to be measured and is relatively high in vaporing latent heat, thereby cooling the gas to be measured. Temperature detector 5 at the upstream side of nozzle 2 inside of pipe 1 measures inflow temperature t1 of the gas to be measured, temperature detector 6 at the downstream side temperature t2 of the gas to be measured after being cooled by the liquid jetted out from nozzle 2, and further temperature detector 7 takes a measurement of temperature t0 of the liquid jetted out from nozzle 2. Measured values obtained by those detectors 5W7 are supplied to arithmetic part 8 and then processed there according to a predetermined program to generate a signal in proportion to the mass flow of the gas to be measured.
