Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain stereospecific polyolefin in high yields by a method wherein olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of organometallic cpd. and an adduct of a magnesium cpd. with a titanium halide, an electron donor, and an aluminum cpd.
CONSTITUTION: Olefin is polymerized or copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a first component and a second component contg. organometallic cpd. of formula I and/or II (wherein M1 is alkali metal; M2 is alkaline earth metal; X, Y, Z, W are H, 1W20C hydrocarbon gp.). The first component consists of an adduct obtained by treating each cpd. of (A)(C), (A)(C)(D), (A)(B)(C) or (A)(B)(C)(D) selected from (A) magnesium cpd. (B) aluminum cpd. (C) electron donor and (D) titanium halide with tetravalent titanium halide in liquid phase.
