Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten the charging time and also prevent the rush current into the battery, by rapidly increasing the output voltage of the charger at its starting to a discharge-end voltage of the battery or a voltage below the battery voltage before the charging, and then gradually increasing it. CONSTITUTION:From the start time t0 to the time t2, when the output voltage of charger reaches a voltage V2 slightly less than the discharge-end voltage V1, the output voltage V0 of the charger is rapidly increased with a slope determined by the constants of the main circuit of the charger. After the voltage V0 reaches the predetermined voltage V2, the voltage V0 is increased with a smaller slope theta by using conventional soft start control. Thus, the time interval from the start time t0 to a charging start time t1, which does not contribute to the charging, can be sufficiently shortened and the slope angle theta is thereafter made smaller by the soft start control so that the rush current into the battery can be prevented.
