Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent stress corrosion cracking of a double-walled pressure vessel composed of external and internal cylinders, by keeping the clearance between both cylinders under pressure equal to or slightly higher than that within the inner cylinder for eliminating tensile strength.
CONSTITUTION: A pressure vessel 1 is composed of thick external and internal cylinder 2, 3 with a clearance 4 between them, its bottom being communicated with air and liquid pipes 5, 6 extending through both cylinders. Liquid and compressed air from both pipes are fed into the vessel 1 to cause a reaction therebetween under high pressure P1 and at a high temperature. Another air pipe 5' penetrates through the external cylinder 3 to keep the clearance 4 under a preset level of pressure P2. A steam exhaust pipe 7 and reaction liquid exhaust pipe 8 also vertically penetrate through the vessel bottom. The said pressure P2 is kept equal to or slightly higher than P1 so as to keep the internal cylinder 3 balanced in pressure on its both sides and to prevent generation of tensile strength in the cylinder 3.
