Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the preparation of a copolymer of an α-olefin and an arbitrary amount of an unsaturated carboxylic acid ester, by using a catalyst comprising a component containing Mg, Ti, a halogen and an electron donor, and a specific organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A (co)polymer is prepared by polymerizing an unsaturated carboxylic ester expressed by the formula (R is hydrocarbon; n is integer of ≥2) (e.g. ethyl 10-undecenate) or its mixture with an α-olefin (e.g. propylene) in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (A) a composite containing (a) magnesium (e.g. magnesium chloride), (b) titanium (e.g. titanium tetrachloride), (c) a halogen and (d) an electron donor (e.g. ethyl benzoate), and (B) an organometallic compound of a IWIII group metal in the periodic table (e.g. alkylaluminum compounds).
