Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover the lowering of selectivity among ions with different marks by a method wherein an oxidizing agent is added in a concentrating chamber of a dialyzing tank, in the electrodialysis of brine using cation and anion exchanging membranes.
CONSTITUTION: When the brine is electrodialyzed by using an electrodialyzing tank formed by pairing a cation exchanging membrane and an anion exchanging membrane, an oxidizing agent, such as a solution containing halogen, such as hypohalogenous acid salt, etc. or a compound solution containing peracid, such as a hydrogen peroxide solution, etc. or the like is added in a concentrating chamber of the electrodialyzing tank. Extraneous matter, such as macroorganic ions, which result from brine attaching to a membrane of the concentrating chamber, a high molecular electrolyte, etc. is removed by the oxidizing agent, thus approximately recovering lowering selective permeability among ions with defferent marks.
