Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent stagnation of produced H2 and O2 gases and let the reaction areas of electrodes be maintained and electrolysis efficiency be well maintained by forming Raney-Ni catalyst layers on the other surface of Ni plates which have a plurality of pores and are provided with oxide films on one surface as well as on the inside wall surfaces of the pores.
CONSTITUTION: H2 and O2 gas producing electrodes 8, 10 consist of electrolyte- resistant Ni plates 1, have a plurality of blanked holes 3 and are provided with oxide films 2 on the surfaces opposing to a diaphragm 12. Raney-Ni catalyst layers 5 are formed on the opposite surface and the inside wall surfaces of the blanked holes 3. With this method, the surfaces of the oxide film 2 side of the electrodes 8, 10 oppose with each other by way of the diaphragm 12 and therefore, electrolytic reaction is suppressed on this opposite face side and the gas production is thereby inhibited. Hence, the stagnation of the gasses is eliminated and the increase in electrolysis resistance prevented. The electrolyte makes contact to the catalyst layers 5 on the back side through the holes 3, whereby electrolytic reaction is accomplished.
