Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide rubber compsn. having good heat build-up, failure characteristics and wearing characteristics, obtd. by grinding waste tire to obtain particles of vulcanized rubber, treating the surfaces of the particles of vulcanized rubber with carboxylated modified diene polymer, blending the treated particles of vulcanized rubber with natural rubber and/or synthetic rubber and then vulcanizing the resulting blend.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided rubber compsn. obtd. by grinding waste tire to obtain particles of vulcanized rubber, treating the surfaces of the particles of vulcanized rubber with carboxylated modified diene polymer having a number-average MW of not less than 5,000, blending (B) the treated particles of vulcanized rubber with (A) natural rubber and/or synthetic rubber, and then vulcanizing the resulting blend. The particles of vulcanized rubber are blended with 100pts.wt. of the natural rubber and/or the synthetic rubber in an amount of not more than 40pts.wt. based on the weight of the vulcanized rubber before the surface treatment. Examples of carboxylated modified diene polymer are those having a number-average MW of not less than 5,000, preferably 5,000W100,000 such as carboxylated modified polyisoprene, carboxylated modified polybutadiene. Preferably, the number of carboxyl gp. in the carboxylated modified diene polymer is 1W20 per 100 of carbon atoms in the main chain of the polymer. Preferably, the surface treatment is carried out in an amount of 1W100pts.wt. of carboxylated modified diene polymer per 100pts.wt. of the particles of the vulcanized rubber.
