Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the propulsive performance at the initial stage of navigation with a simple constitution by installing hydrofoils and underwater helicopter rotors beneath the hull, and by heaving the main hull over the water plane at the initial stage of nevigation.
CONSTITUTION: Fore and aft of the main hull 1 is provided with completely submerged hydrofoils 3 respectively supported by legs 2 below the hull. And at intermediate positions of the hull a pair of underwater helicopter rotor is provided fore and aft to be rotated and driven through the reduction gear in the gear box 7 by means of the gas turbine 6. Hence, in a stand still condition by driving rotors 5 the main hull 1 is supported in the air not sustaining the effect of waves. Thence if an advance pitch is taken for rotors 5, rotors 5 increase their driving power towards fore and aft gradually as the main hull 1 is supported by the lift of fore and aft hydrofoils.
