Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the improvement in the reproducibility of image end part and the gradation characteristic of visible images by accelerating the transfer of the developer from a developing material substrate to a latent image holder thence reverse-transferring the developer having transferred to non-image part.
CONSTITUTION: DC voltage is applied to a sleeve 12 by a power source 16 and a development accelerating part A is formed near the minimum spacing. Hence, in the image part, a large amount of developer surely deposits even to the end part. Since relatively weak electric fields act in the non-image part, a slight amount of the developer deposits, creating a some ground fog state. Thence, DC voltage is applied to a reverse transfer electrode 18 by a power source 21, whereby the reverse transfer part B is formed. Because of this, a slight amount of toner is stripped off from the image part and the toner having deposited on the non-image part completely reverse-transfers on the reverse transfer electrode 18. In a medium contrast region, the toner pickup is determined by the magnitude of the transfer amount of the developer according to holding potentials, hence the good quality images of high gradation characteristic and superior reproducibility of line images are obtained.
