Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for an electrolytic cell, and to maintain an excellent treating condition continually, by a method wherein a solution obtained by aerating ozonized gas to a water solution of alkali bromide is used as a washing liquid and its pH and the concentration of hypobromous acid ions are controlled within fixed ranges.
CONSTITUTION: A gas to be treated la is washed employing a solution manufactured by aerating ozonized gas 13 to a water solution containing the alkali bromide of 6W80 millimol/l as a washing liquid 4. The pH of the washing liquid 4 is controlled so as to become within a range of 9.5W12 by regulating the quantity of an alkali water solution 16 supplied while the concentration of hypobromous acid ions in the washing liquid 4 is controlled so as to reach not less than 0.4 millimol/l by controlling the quantity of ozone in the ozonized gas 13 aerating the water solution. It is preferable that an ultraviolet absorbing meter is used as a densitometer 18a for hypobromous acid ions, and that the washing liquid 4 is aerated by the ozonized gas and circulated while renewing one portion of the washing liquid 4 by employing an alkali bromide water solution 15 for resupply.
