Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the automatic detection of the presence or not of the sand crumbling of molten metal pouring cup and the presence or not of the molten metal in mold by inserting an inspecting rod into the molten metal pouring cup and detecting its displacement and further providing a means of detecting the molten metal injected into the molten metal pouring cup.
CONSTITUTION: A detecting head 9 descends and the inspection rod 15 inserted into the detecting head 9 enters a molten metal pouring cup 4. When its end 16 reaches the specified position, it contacts the protrusion 10 of the detecting head 9 side wall and a limit switch 11 detects the descending position of the detecting head 9. When sand crumbling 21 has occured in a molten metal pouring cup 4, the inspection rod 15 stops in that position and only the detecting head 9 descends down to the specified position, then its collar 17 contacts a displacement-detecting limit switch 20. Thereby, the occurrence of the sand crumbling 21 in the molten metal pouring cup 4 is detected. When a molten metal detector 31 consisting of photoelectric elements is provided toward the molten metal pouring cup 4 and the pouring of a mold 3 is detected, the pouring stop is commanded so that the command for stopping the descending of the detecting head 9 is emitted to the sand crumbling detecting part.
