Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A quinoline derivative of formula I (R1 is vinyl, ethyl, 2-fluoro- ethyl,2,2,2-trifluoroethyl or methoxy) or its pharmacologically permissible salt.
EXAMPLE: 6-Fluoro-7-methyl-1-vinyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid.
USE: Antibacterial agent effective to gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and having wide safety range and broad antibacterial spectrum.
PROCESS: A quinoline derivative IV can be prepared by reacting, e.g. a quinoline derivative II (R2 is ester residue) with an alkylating agent III (R3 is ethyl, 2-fluoroethyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; X1 is Cl, Br, or I), and an objective compound I-a is prepared by hydrolyzing the compound IV.
