Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compounds which are useful as raw materials of polyesters, etc., in high yield and high quality in a short time, by reacting carboxylic acids and diaryl carbonates in the absence of a catalyst at a specific temperature in a specific charge ratio of the latter to the former.
CONSTITUTION: Carboxylic acids, preferably aliphatic and aromatic mono- and polycarboxylic acids, e.g. terephthalic acid, and diaryl carbonates, e.g. diphenyl carbonate, are reacted in the absence of a catalyst at 150W350°C. The equivalent charge ratio of the diaryl carbonates to the carboxylic acids is 1.2W2.5 to 1. The corresponding carboxylic acid aryl esters are obtained in high yield and high quality in a short time. Particularly aromatic dicarboxylic acid aryl esters of said compounds are useful as raw materials of polyesters which are excellent in heat resistance, chemical resistance, etc., and also useful as acylating agents for the preparation of medicines.
