Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain both digital display by numerals and that by segments on the same panel with high efficiency by equipping each couple of opposite electrodes with a method which displays segments sequentially by selectively supplying at least three driving signal out of prescribed phase.
CONSTITUTION: Corresponding to the amount of information to be displayed, signals (α) and (β) and signals X, Y and Z are applied being combined appropriately and selectively in order to perform efficiently both digital display by numerals and artificial analog display by segments. Namely, the dynamic driving of the numeral display part is made possible by using signals (α) and (β) determining whether the display on the artificial analog display part is done or not. In addition, since their duties are equal, the lightness of the artificial analog display part is made equal to that of the numeral display part and it becomes easy to recognize by eyes. Further, adequate information judgement can be made sensuously by both digital display and analog display of information. Moreover, since driving signals can be used in common, the driver circuit can be simplified and realized cheaply.
