Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a repeatedly usable immobilized enzyme, easily, by adsorbing enzyme or microbial cells to a complex of a polycationic polymer and a poly anionic polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Enzyme or microbial cells having enzymatic activity is adsorbed to a water-insoluble polyion complex composed of a polycationic polymer such as poly (N-methyl-2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine)iodide (PMVP) and a polyanionic polymer such as polystyrene sulfonic acid potassium salt (PSSK), and the immobilized enzyme thus obtained is used for the enzymatic reaction. The adsorption is carried out by adding the polycationic polymer or the polyanionic polymer to an aqueous solution containing the enzyme or the microbial cells and an ionic polymer having opposite charge to the above polymer.
