Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce sludge treating expenses by use of a cheap coagulant and to carry out uniform stirring by adding alkali extracted from blast furnace slag as the coagulant to sludge in the form of a soln.
CONSTITUTION: A flocculant is added from flocculant supplier 3 to sludge 2 supplied to flocculant mixing vessel 1 and mixed with stirring. The mixed sludge is fed to sludge concentrator 8, where it is concentrated and the supernatant is removed. The conc. sludge is then fed to sludge carriage pipe 14 through flexible tube 12. To the sludge during carriage are added part of crushed blast furnace slag in wet ball mill 15 and a fixed amt. of an alkali coagulant (calcium silicate). They are mixed with stirring in mixer 16, and the formed conc. sludge is carried through pipe 14 again. To the sludge is added a fixed amt. of hardening agent 19 and mixed with stirring by use of booster pump 17. The resulting sludge is transported to a dumping area.
