Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the quantity and angle of rotation at relatively high resolution by combining a disc which has the spiral zone to be sensed and a sensor.
CONSTITUTION: A shield disc 1 which is composed of light non-transmittable member and has a spiral strip form light transmission window 3 centering at a shaft 2 is carried by the forward-backward rotatable shaft 2. A light source element 4 is disposed on one side of the shield disc 1 and a plurality of photoelectric transducers 5 are linearly disposed in the radial direction on the other side. Then, when the shield disc 1 is rotated about the shaft 2, the position of the light transmission window 3 with respect to the photoelectric transducer 5 group changes in the radial direction of the shield disc 1 along with the progression of the rotation and the light having been emitted form the light source element 4 and transmitted through the light transmission window 3 selectively enters subsequently into one of the photoelectric transducer 5 group. Hence, the quantity and angle of rotation of the shield disc 1 are detected by the outputs of the photoelectric transducers 1 to which the light has been entered.
