Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide compounding material for Sederberg's electrode with remarkably small thermal expansion at high temp., by specifying grain-size distribution of the aggregate, and by compounding pitch coke of specific ratio.
CONSTITUTION: The aggregate, which constitutes compounding material for the electrode, consists of nearly equal amount of coarse particles (15W4.5 mm), fine particles (1.0 mm or under), and ≤ 15% medium size particles (4.5W1.0 mm). In addn., 20W40% pitch is added.
EFFECT: Tensile force at the electrode surface is made smaller, consequently the formation of initial crack is prevented, so that troubles due to the breakage of the electrode can be decreased.
