Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title copper alloy whose wear resistance, heat resistance and workability can be enhanced by limiting the contents of tin and Cr.
CONSTITUTION: A copper alloy for trolley wires is refined consisting of, by wt., tin; 0.1W0.4%, Cr; 0.03W0.2% and the balance copper essentially. For example, usual copper metal is melted at 1250°C and deoxidized. After adding tin as its element and Cr as a Cu-15%Cr mother alloy to the molten copper, they are dissolved well with stirring and continuous-cast into a 120 mm square ingot. The ingot is hot rolled at 850°C and cooled with water. The resulting rough wire of 22.5 mmϕ is then worked into a grooved trolley wire of 110 mm2 by surface cutting and cold drawing. Thus, the trolley wire with superior heat resistance and superior sliding wear resistance at the time of current collection can be obtd. without deteriorating the castability and cold workability, and requiring troublesome heat treatment.
