Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a CaCl2 soln. of high purity and high concn. by reacting a CaCl2 soln. which has absorbed HCl and org. matter in exhaust gas with lumpy CaCO3 and removing the org. matter in the absorbing soln. with CO2 formed by the reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas 1 contg. HCl and org. matter, by-products of chlorination reaction of arom. hydrocarbons such as benzene is fed to ejector 2 together with a CaCl2 soln. from reactor 4 packed with limestone. The CaCl2 soln. which has absorbed the HCl in gas 1 is supplied to reactor 4 through vapor-liquid separator 3. Unreacted HCl separated 3 is introduced into absorption tower 16 to allow the HCl to be absorbed into water 17. On the other hand, in reactor 4 the HCl contained in the CaCl2 soln. is reacted with limestone, and the org. matter in the soln. is stripped with fine bubbles of CO2 formed by the reaction and released through tower 16 together with exhaust gas of separator 3. Part of the circulating CaCl2 soln. in reactor 4 is fed to neutralization vessel 11, adjusted to pH about 7.2 with slaked lime slurry 12, and supplied to settling tank 18. The supernatant is stored in storage tank 20 as a product.
