Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce discharge between electrodes by a normal operating voltage, and also to improve the reliability of a knocking process in the manufacture process for a cathode-ray tube. CONSTITUTION:Conductive metal cylinder 11 is set to neck part 1n of tube body 1 and connected electrically in common with stem pin 4 to a negative high-tension power supply such as power supply E of -30KV, and stem pin 4 and conductor metal cylinder 11 are made equal in potential and lower than high-tension feeder 5 with conductor 7 of high-tension feeder 5 grounded. Further, power supply E is provided with switch S, which switches with its ON time once to four times longer than its OFF time, and stem pin 4 and conductor metal cyclinder 11 are applied intermittently with a negative high voltage (-30KV). By applying the negative high voltage from power supply E to stem pin 4 and conductor metal cylinder 11, the high-tension feeder 5 side, i.e. the 3rd and 5th grids G3 and G5 are made high in potential, and the stem pin 4 and conductor metal cylinder 11 side, i.e. the 1st, 2nd and 4th grids G1, G2 and G4 are low so as to cause discharge between electrodes, thereby performing the knocking process.
