NEW MATERIAL:2-(2-Nitroethyl)-methylpyrrole I [R is H, (substituted) aroyl], and its derivative.
USE: An intermediate for the economical and industrial production of (1-methyl-5- aroylpyrroly1-2)acetic acid III which is a strong antiphlogistic agent.
PROCESS: 2-(2-Nitroethyl)-1-methylpyrrole I' (which is one of the compound I) is prepared by reacting industrially available methylpyrrole II with 1-nitro-2-aclyloxyethane. Aroylation of the compound I' gives 5-aroyl compound I" (Ar is (substituted) aryl) which is also one of the compound I. The antipholgistic compound III is obtained by reacting the compound I" with an acid anhydride, followed by hydrolyzing the product with an alkali.
