Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare economically a highly random copolymer by polymerizing a conjugated diolefin and a vinyl substituted aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of a lithium secondary amide polymerization initiator and a specific randomizer.
CONSTITUTION: A rondom copolymer useful as rubbers for tire treads, etc. is prepared by polymerizing a conjugated diolefin, e.g. butadiene, etc., and a vinyl- substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. styrene, etc., in the presence of a lithium secondary amide as a polymerization initiator and an ortho-dialkoxybenzene, e.g. veratrol, etc., as a randomizer
