Abstract

PURPOSE: Urethanized polyester varnish suited to the impregnation of wood material because of its freeness from cracking when hardened by heating, that is composed of a specific urethanized polyester as the major component and a reactive diluent.
CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated polyester with many hydroxyl groups on chain terminals is prepared and these terminal hydroxyl groups are reacted with diisocyanates to form a chain-extended urethane polyester, which is diluted with a reactive diluent to produce said liquid polyester varnish. The concentration of urethane linkage is preferably 0.5 × 10-3 mol/g or more. when the urethane linkage is little, the cured urethanized polyester does not show sufficient toughness and causes crackings on the coated surface
