Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare coenzyme Q useful for the remedy of congestive heart, etc., in high yield, by treating an aqueous suspension of microbial cells with acid or alkali, or mechanically crushing said suspension drying the treated or caushed suspension to obtain dried cells, and extracting and purifying the dried cells with an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Aqueous suspension of coenzyme Q-containing microbial cells, e.g. coenzyme Q9-producing Candida tropicalis LAM 4924, is treated with an acid or an alkali, or crushed by mechanical forces such as grinding, impact, shear, etc., and dried by a drum-type drier, etc. The acid treatment is carried out at pH≤1, and 40W120°C for ≥3 min; and the alkali treatment is e.g. pH8W12, 50W120°C for 1W15 min. The dried cells are extracted with a hydrophilic solvent such as ethanol, the extract is transferred to a hydrophobic solvent, decomposed lipid is removed by washing, and the purified fraction of coenzyme Q is obtained by the chromatographic treatment of the solution
