Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid or solid isomer by heating and isomerizing cis-3- methyl-Δ4-tetrahydro-cis,cis-phthalic anhydride or its hydrogenated compound in the presence of an alkali metal compound, and terminating the isomerization reaction by the addition of a phosphorous ester.
CONSTITUTION: Cis-3-methyl-Δ4-tetrahydro-cis, cis-phthalic anhydride or its hydrogenated compound, cis-3-methyl-hexahydrophthalic anhydride, is isomerized to the corresponding isomer by haeatig in the presence of an alkali metal compound such as LiOH. When the degree of isomerization reaches a definite value, the isomerization is stopped by adding a phosphorous ester (e.g. triphenyl phosphite, etc.) in an amount at least equimolar to the alkali metal compound.
