Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cylinder having improved dimensional accuracy, tensile strength, and surface smoothness, by centrifugal molding of a fiber-reinforced thermosetting resin cylinder having unevenness of the outer surface, using an openable cylindrical mold made of a flexible material.
CONSTITUTION: The master model 6 made of wood, metal, etc. is superposed on the outer cylinder 5 coaxially, and a curable flexible material e.g. the two-pack silicone material 3 to form a silicone rubber on curing, etc. is injected into the clearance between them. Any part of the outer mold 3 made of the flexible material is opened (cut part 4), and the master model 6 is taken out to give the outer mold 3. The model 3 is assembled to arrange glass fibers on the inner wall of the mold, and rotated by a centrifugal molding machine at a low speed to inject a composition of a liquid thermosetting resin and a curing agent. After curing, the machine is stopped from rotating, the outer cylinder is removed. The outer mold 3 is then opened, and the molded article is taken out.
