Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect a book of bound signatures whether it is in proper position before it is case-bound in the bookmaking, and to prevent it is case-bound upside down.
CONSTITUTION: Books 32 of bound signatures are conveyed at equal intervals therebetween to a proper position for each book 32 to be automatically covered by a cover. In such a bookmaking process, a spine 34 of each book 32 has previously marked with a detection mark 40 displaced from a londitudinal center of the spine 34. Before the book 32 arrives at a position where it is case-bound, detectors 52, 54 and 48 detect ends 52, 54 of the spine 34 and the detection mark 40, respectively, to generate signals. Based on these signals, the book 32 is detected whether it is in proper position, and an operator can thus put the book in proper position by seeing the mark 40
