Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for preventing collision of vehicle, suited particularly for dual mode bus or others, which is capable of protecting passengers in vehicle safefly, by applying preliminary braking to make passengers feel deceleration of vehicle and prepare themselves for abrupt braking.
CONSTITUTION: In a vehicle, in which transmission signal ST generated at transmitting section of rader I is radiated from antenna 3 forwards of the vehicle via circulatror 2, reflection wave reflected off an object is received by the antenna 3 and sent to receiving section 4 as reception signal SR' echo signal Sa obtained in the section 4 is sent to signal processing section 1, thus obtaining relative speed signal Vr, and the signal Vr is sent to information processing section II; said information processing section II is designed such that preliminary braking signal for applying preliminary brake for a short while is given to brake controlling section III when relative distance between the vehicle and the object has become a predetermined value greater than the braking distance required for averting collision of the vehicle in response to the output of radar I
