Abstract
PURPOSE:To cool metal wire, which is heated for annealing, without causing oxidation and color change, by cooling the wire by a water-cooling nozzle for blowing away steam foam set around the metal wire and between a cooling water tank and a heating furnace for annealing. CONSTITUTION:Annealed, high temp. metal wire 2 having left a heating furnace 1 is run through a press. chamber 6 and a water-cooling nozzle 5, it is then cooled with cooling water contained in a water tank 3. While the metal wire 2 passing out of the through bore 51, cooling water having entered through an inlet 54 is sprayed through a nozzle 52 at an angle of 10-70 deg.. The water forms uniform laminar flow 7 in circumferential direction on the surface of the metal wire 2 to disperse and to remove steam foams formed on the surface of the metal wire, hereby O2 contained in the steam foams causes no oxidation and color change of the metal wire 2 surface. At the same time, reducing gas consisting of 2-20 % H2, and the balance N2, is injected into the press. chamber 6 through an inlet 64 to pressurize the chamber so that the oxidation of the metal wire and reverse flow of water through an opening 51 of the cooling water nozzle are prevented.
