Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable rapid acceleration of a marine diesel engine by providing a starter auxiliary air supply unit at the diesel engine to thereby supply auxiliary air to the diesel engine at abruptly reversing or accelerating time.
CONSTITUTION: A third valve 13 is installed in the combustion chamber 3 of a diesel engine 4 in addition to suction and exhaust valves (not shown). Compressed air is introduced through a starter air control valve 1 into the chamber 5 formed at the top of the valve 13 to be able to be introduced through a starter control valve 11 and an acceleration control valve 12 into the chamber 5. A starter air control valve 6 and acceleration air control valve 9 are disposed at the downstream side of the valves 11 and 12 to be opened at starting and accelerating time of the engine 4 via a starter cam 7 and acceleration cam 10 to thereby introduce the compressed air therefrom into the combustion chamber 3 at abruptly reversing and accelerating time occurred at starting time or the like to thus maintain the revolution of the engine 4 normal.
