Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent decrease in ion-exchange capacity of resin, by injecting pH adjustor through a liq.-distributor installed in the ion exchanged resin layer of the apparatus described in the title while ion exchange being carried out so as to mix the adjustor with the liq. to be treated in order to maintain the liq. at a pH suitable for ion exchange reaction.
CONSTITUTION: the liq. to be treated contg. heavy metals and introduced into a resin-moving type ion exchange tower 1 through a lower inlet 6 passes through the ion exchange resin layer 2, where it is freed from heavy metals, and is discharged through an outlet 7. As the adsorption progresses, the adsorbing zone for heavy metals shifts upward, then a suitable amount of a pH adjustor is injected through a liq. distributor 4, equipped at the central part of the tower, with an automatic valve 10 opened in order to maintain the adsorbing zone at an optimum pH. When the ion exchanging power of the resin positioned lower than the distributor is lost and adsorbing zone shifts upward, treating water is injected through the liq. distributor 4 and an auxiliary liq. distributor 5 with the valve 10 closed and valves 8, 9, 12 opened. The resin is delivered through the automatic valve 8 to the regeneration system.
