Abstract

PURPOSE: To inspect for presence of miswiring in the length from plural magnetic heads to a record/playback selector switch accurately and in a short time, by applying discriminating signals to first and second magnetic heads simultaneously and alternately in a sequential manner.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic tape for test 30 has a region 31 in which specified signals are recorded in the entire width thereof, and regions 33 and 35 in which the signals are recorded in the half width, being provided in first and second recording tracks 32 and 34, sequentially and repetitively. First and second magnetic heads 1, 4 send out two-series discriminating signals, when the loaded magnetic tape for test 30 is operated in playback mode, through switches 3, 6, and code signals to be tested of 2 series are made by a coding means. Using these code signals to be tested as inputs, a synchronizing means generates two-series reference signals,d and the code signals to be tested and the reference signals are inputted into a D flip-flop circuit 22 which is a detecting means. By detecting disagreement of the two signals, abnormality in wiring is detected by an output terminal Q.
