Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1=methyl; R2=a group of formula II and formula III).
EXAMPLE: N-(3-Oleyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl)-2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol.
USE: Nonionic surfactant, emulsifying agent, dispersant. Synthetic intermediate of various surfactans. Esp. the compound gives a water-in-oil emulsion (W/O type), having excellent emulsifiability, stability and water-retaining characteristics.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I is obtained by the thermal reaction of glycidyloleyl ether (1 mole) with trimethylolaminomethane or 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (1.2W3 moles) at 110°C for 3W4 hr.
